I have a concept for a new character. But I will keep it secret except for perhaps divulging to the DM or someone close to the DM. For I am learning how to build a character of this sort. lol

Intriguing.

Fickle. ![]()
Also, I wanted to mention that yes, I was irritated when I thought Marelth had died this weekend but not because I'm the DM's wife and should never die...I was irritated because it would have been a really pointless death and, even though Brandon was right that it didn't matter if I had moved or not, it was the first time pretty much since we'd started playing that Marelth ran into the thick of things and, of course, that's when she dies. Anyway, I just really didn't want people to think that I was just mad because, "Burt shouldn't kill me," which is not the case at all.
Grrr...Marelth's been putting off implementing a little oh-shit measure she's been saving for but this weekend showed me I need to do that, pretty much immediately.
Offline
Burt, don't forget to work on our phat lewtz from the giant's cache.

I'm always fickle. That doesn't shock you does it?

Ah yes, the phat lewtz. Who wants to record it?

holy crap.
Azriel would be interested in rod of cancellation x3

I'm sure he would be, lol.
How about 1? ![]()
Offline
i dont recall how much they cost, but he would buy them from the group if he had the cash monies. if other people want some, 1 is fine too ![]()
Offline
I think Cloak of Displacement: Major is the only thing in there Soick would like. Unless I completely missed something in the list. If someone else wants the cloak, they're welcome to it... anyone that can see the ninja in combat most likely defeats displacement anyway.
Offline
I'll have to look at my sheets, but if no one will use it Darian would definately be interested in the anarchic, thundering warhammer.
Offline
So, Burt and I handled the selling of loot from last night and also the time a while ago we were supposed to do online and never did. That makes for a total of 80,000 gp, plus the 10k from up top that I don't think we ended up splitting. So, 90k to be split between 5 PCs (belonging to Brandon, Melissa, Logan, Zach, Adam, and me) and 4 half shares (cohorts Atacapa and Darian, party share, and Russ since he hasn't been around for most of the game time that these sales pertain to). I know that there have been different characters (like Melissa's) around for some of this but it's just easier to split it up per player than actual character; then no one gets fucked.
Full share: 12, 857 gp, 1 sp, 4 cp
Half share: 6,428 gp, 5 sp, 7 cp

If I could earn cash on the scale that your characters do by putting my life at risk in the real world, I would be seriously tempted to do so.
Offline
Ok Burt, i know i camped on this and should have had it up days ago. But if you get a min what would be the cost of a small shop and/or a ludus (gladiator school). Also possible operating cost/revenue from fighting my gladiators. Also, the revenue/cost of my ludus i'm building in Donner.
Offline
I thought is was called a lannis/lanis.
Offline
You can only build a lannis if we build it in the suburb of Morrisett. Because a lannis in Donner is not a cool as a lannis in Morrisett. Hehe, yay 90's music. You give me such joy.

...uncool, man. Bropocalypse.
Offline
Ok Zack, the big question is wether you want to rent or own your shop, and where you want it. If you want it in the evil metropolis its going to cost you 350 Gp/month to rent a sufficient space or about 7,500 Gp to buy your own space. In donner it will cost you 200 Gp/month to rent sufficient space or 5,000 Gp buy.
That is going to include a receptionist area so to speak where you can recieve customers and show slaves, a small kitchen, and a small residence hall for keeping slaves.
A ludus is a much larger, much more expensive prospect. For this you are going to have a pair of barracks, a basic armory a common area, a large courtyard for training and showing slaves, kitchens, guest rooms etc. etc. You're going to pay about 70,000 Gp for a fully functional ludus wherever you buy.
As for slaves, that depends on how you want to get started. On the open market you're going to pay a gold for a child, about 2.5 Gp for a teenager unless they are special in some case (particularly strong, or attractive and so on) and 2.5 Gp for an untrained adult with no craft or profession. Trained craftsmen or professionals go for about 10 Gp. Highly educated sages and artisans go for about 30-45 Gp depending on the demand.
Lets start at the bottom of the barrel for gladiators. You can purchase untrained prisoners from the city for 1 Gp a piece for use in gladiatorial fights and training other gladiators. Dangerous criminals, especially those that can handle weapons such as deserters from the army are usually sold for about 7.5 Gp each.
Prices for gladiators with character levels are as follows:
ECL 1 = 20 Gp
ECL 2 = 45 Gp
ECL 3 = 150 Gp
ECL 4 = 200 Gp
ECL 5 = 300 Gp
ECL 6 = 450 GP
ECL 7 = 600 Gp
ECL 8 = 900 Gp
ECL 9 = 1,100 Gp
ECL 10 = 1,500 Gp
We can definitely talk about higher level slaves, just remember that life is cheap. Monsters and such for the gladiatorial pits are going to follow different prices, we can talk about that if you want.

OK... ya caught me.
Offline
So what actually happened at the game last weekend?
Offline
Honestly, this last week not a whole ton happened other than the 2nd phase of the siege. It was mostly a combat session, though you guys did get a look at Melina's apprentice as she instructed her acolytes to kill you, ducked into the catacombs and slammed an adamantine door in your faces.
Offline
Apprentice being the Purple Queen?
Offline
Aye, that be the one.
Offline
And more importantly, i disintegrated their hivemind-worm thing.
Offline
Ah yes, you murdered a bunch of innocent worms in their colony. You are a terrible person. ![]()

I am building a backup character in case Lucius meets his final end. What ECL should he be? Lucius is 16 but many others are 15.
Offline
Marelth is 16. Just...fyi.
Offline
Ninja is 14.
Offline
i still need my new special ability for 16th ..... BURT!
Offline
lol, I know. I will have them for you this week.
Offline
OH, I have a sweet idea for my backup character. However, it will require that I am the slave of one of our current party members (should the need ever arise for a backup character). Is anyone interested in having a slave? I intend for him to be angry and resentful of being a slave...but player to player, he is going to remain loyal. Any takers?
Think, large and able to carry your school books. Kind of like Chewbacca.

Ooooooooooh, Marelth loves slaves...
Speaking of which, most hilarious thing happened today: I was chatting with Susannah about our group and our general situation and mentioned that Haborym had a cohort, explained what that was, etc. She said, "Oooh, can I have a cohort?" and I said, "Oh yeah, basically, anyone can have a cohort. And it doesn't just have to be a bodyguard, either. You could play them as a friend, a sibling, a hireling, whatever. It's up to you." And she says, "...how about a slave?" Lol, I laughed my butt off. She's going to fit in just fine. ![]()
Offline
Sure sounds like it, lol.
Also, I don't recall Chewbacca carrying many books.
Offline
That's because Lucas decided to leave the years that Chewie was a Shyriiwookian slave out of the script. He carried Admiral Tarkin's books around before the Deathstar.

Are there other races that have Powerful Build?
Offline
All I know of are Goliath and Half-Giant, if I'm not mistaken.
Offline
I do believe those are the only races with powerful build.
Offline
He could be one of my gladiators.
Offline
Holy poop! That would be awesome.
Also, you have a non-psionic half-giant race don't you Burt?
Offline
Also, solved my "Lanis/Lanister" confussion. Wasn't finding it because it was "Lanista" and not listed as an English word.
lanista
The owner of a gladiatorial troupe, responsible for their training. He rented his troupe to the editor of the games. A lanista could also referee gladiatorial contests. From the reign of Marcus Aurelius onwards, the profession of lanista was not as lucrative as it had been, since the state obliged him to supply all his gladiators at a fixed price, …
Offline
Yes I do have a non-psionic half-giant race.
The Half-Giants of the deep deserts are a very new race to the world having come into existence late in the previous Age, the Age of Chaos. Thanks to the powerful magic’s that ran rampant in the world, the ancient kings of the fallen nation of Nakathorhenka; human slaves were crossed with giants to breed a new race for heavy labor and warfare. Their amoral experiments resulted in the Half-Giants we know today. Though they resemble humans, they are of enormous stature, ranging from 7 ½ to nearly 9 feet in height, with adults ranging from 280 lbs. to nearly 450 lbs. These beings are also heavily built with the thicker bones and denser muscles of their giant kin. The vast majority of these people are still held as slaves in the southern region of the central continent, although some have either escaped or won their freedom through force of arms. Because of their immense size and strength Half-Giants are still valued as laborers and warriors today.
Half Giant Racial Traits:
• +4 to strength, -2 to dexterity, +2 to constitution: Half-Giants are extremely strong, and very tough, but are too large to be agile.
• Half –giants still count as medium creatures.
• Half-giants are monstrous humanoids.
• Half-giants base land speed is 40 feet.
• Low-Light Vision: Half giants can see twice as far as a human in low light conditions.
• Half-Giants are accustomed to extreme temperatures, and do not suffer the normal penalties. They treat each temperature category as one less. For example, in extreme heat, they only suffer the penalties for severe heat. (see Sandstorm or Frostburn for descriptions of the various temperature categories)
• Powerful Build: The physical stature of half-giants is such that it allows them to function as a large creature in many ways though they are in fact medium. Whenever a half-giant is subject to a size modifier for an opposed check such as bull-rush or grapple, they may be considered large. Additionally, they may use weapons as if they were large creatures. A half-giant is considered to be large whenever they are subject to special attacks such as a creature’s swallow whole. A half-giant’s space and reach remain that of a medium creature.
• Level Adjustment: +1.

Susannah wants to be a holy caster of some sort. Ideas besides Cleric & Healer that aren't prestige classes?
Offline
hhhmm...Paladin.
Offline
More casty the better but yes, paladin.
Offline
Druid
I was trying to figure out a good healer too for an evil campaign. Druids can be as mean and angry as they want because...WHO CARES? They can heal, they can regenerate, they can hurt the crap out of people if they get pissed. Could be good. Granted, we have a druid...but she is focused on the shape shifting side of things. We could use a Casty Casterton from Casterville.
I was looking at an Egoist Psion...but they aren't healy so much as they are putting parts back that are removed.

She doesn't really care about healing, just casting in general, I think. But a druid's not a bad idea.
Offline
Oh, gotcha. I was thinking healing...but you just said holy caster. Divine...I will think.
Favored Soul is another probability.

Complete Divine: Favored Soul, Shugenja, Spirit Shaman
Dungeonscape: Factotum (they can cast divine
)
Heroes of Horror: Archivist
Miniatures Handbook: Favored Soul (again)
Player's Handbook: Druid, Ranger
Huh... I thought there were more.
Offline
Dragon Shaman...but they are more fighty than casty.
Offline
Yeah, too fighty for her, I think.
I'll have to look at the Archivist. I've read them before but remember nothing. And no, I'm not going to help a brand new player build a fucking Factotum. ![]()
Offline
Hey, would it be possible to have Powerful Build added as a feat?
Offline
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say no to it being a single feat, though I might be willing to consider it if it is divided up into a feat progression.
Offline
What if it just happens because I'm cool? ![]()
I'll get together with you and see if we can figure out some kind of progression. Or, you might just decide it's silly and veto. ![]()

Sounds about right ![]()

Sure Logan. Whats one more way to get in your sudden strike ability at this point ![]()
Offline
Did you, uh...read that feat, Burt? It's not sudden strike. ![]()
Offline
It's a way to get sudden strike. If I successfully feint, they lose their Dex bonus against me, and then comes the pain.
Feinting is the last "easy" way to make someone lose their Dex that I don't have yet.
Offline
Scratch that, anyway. I think I found a more entertaining feat.
And this one is from approved source material. ![]()
Offline
lol, that terrifies me.
Offline
Oh, it's nothing terrible, just fun.
Be glad Soick didn't start down the Umbral Deciple (Magic of Incarnum) prestige class. Add Whirlwind attack to Kiss of Shadow pumped with a few points of essentia. Sudden Strike against everything within reach... when reach is 15'? Yeah... be glad he didn't do that.
Offline
Wow

It's kinda nice when you transfer to a new character sheet as you lvl up and all the numbers come out the same. Means that you haven't gone crazy somewhere in the last 10 lvls and given yourself extra, or screwed yourself out of abilities or stats.
Offline
The numbers come out the same. I'm sure I'm just misunderstanding but that sounds like you haven't been leveling up at all. ![]()

I generally just pick random numbers and hope that they look appropriate at a glance. Then you guys never know. Wait...crap.
